Blue Fireworks Pendant

Sitting with a photographer friend ([link]) on the dawn of the new year, I held a notebook and commented that I needed it to jot down any ideas... should they come to me.

She suggested I make a silver beer bottle cap pendant.

It wasn't till days later, whilst looking at her fireworks photos on Facebook, that I found my inspiration.

This pendant is roughly 4 cm tall. The front is saw pierced reticulated silver, the back 'tag' is textured and heat coloured titanium.

It initially had designed it to be a plain layer of oxidised silver over the titanium, but once I'd done that I wasn't happy. I wanted to incorporate the hazy smoke that builds up at any fireworks display & the scattered glow from previous explosions.

So out came the torch, and I spent some time getting the surface texture the way I wanted it - I didn't want the 'classic' reticulated look.

Then I oxidised the front, and lightly polished it to accentuate the high points.
