Frequently we stopped. Got out to switch drivers sometimes, but mostly to investigate. To take photos. To look at the coloured dirt, the paper dasies, fields of Patterson's Curse.
The freedom to simply pull over and get out to 'go have a look' was marvelous.
On one such stop, I noticed this bright blue butterfly wing caught in the bone-dry ground cover.
It reminded me of a Ulysses butterfly - I once saw them at a butterfly farm in Queensland. However, a Ulysses butterfly in a hot arid environment seems unlikely.
